Gemini Mermaids

I am excited to share some new work! I have had so much fun working on the branding for Gemini Mermaids, a women's clothing label that believes in friendship, fashion, and fun. When Alicia, the owner of Gemini Mermaids, came to me describing her intent to create a line of comfortable, fun, and expressive knitwear pieces that would inspire positivity in fashion, I was all in! So for the logo we went with a modern but slightly whimsical custom type treatment. I had so much fun building this brand out and working on all the fun pieces. Check it out below and let me know what you think!

I promise to keep you guys updated about Gemini Mermaids, because believe me you are going to need some of their tees when they come out.

I am looking forward to seeing all of it come to life. Feels good to work with a brand promoting kindness and positivity!

Believe In Yourself

I have been in a really reflective mood lately - maybe it is because I am preparing to pack up my whole life on the East Coast and head back to California this summer. Which is so exciting and totally terrifying at the same time. This past year and a half has been full of twists and turns for me as a woman and a new business owner. And through it all I have struggled with doubting myself, my goals, and what I really even wanted in the first place.

Aka did I see myself starting my freelance business at 23 with pretty much no idea what the heck I was doing? No! Is it one of the most amazing, rewarding, and fun adventures I have ever been on? Yes!

But the beginning of it all, was pushing myself to just simply believe in myself to do it. I struggle with this daily, but confidence is not cockiness. Believing in yourself can be quiet - it doesn't have to be loud and completely annoying to all of your family, friends, and followers. But it is important - it is the start of the journey of where YOU want to go.

And of course the #girlboss Sophia Amoruso said it best herself :

"When you believe in yourself, other people will believe in you, too."

Printable To Do Lists

Hi Friends!

Happy September! But wow, where the heck did summer go? In the scramble of traveling, vacations, work, a new puppy, and more work, summer went way to fast.

So in the spirit of the season of "back to work/school/etc.." I have some printable to do lists to help kick start your productivity! And because I am obsessed with anything indigo dyed & Shibori (if you are too check out my shop), I had to incorporate that in some way.

These hand lettered and Shibori background to do lists have helped kick start my day (the 2 cups of coffee may have helped a little too!)

PSSST....

Want to know a secret?

I always write something I have already completed at the first item on my list, just so I can cross it out & feel productive. It's pretty silly but it works!

Click here to download the PDF and print as many list as you'd like (there are two per page) on standard 8.5 x11" card stock or any thick paper, then just cut off the green boarders. Hope you enjoy!

Meet Bruce!

Say hello to the newest member of our house, Bruce Bean (Bean for Beantown) ! He is a black and white, with a teeny tiny bit of brindle, Boston Terrier puppy born on May 23rd. Bruce weighs a little over 6lbs right now but is growing quickly.

Since bringing Bruce home late last Friday night, we have spent our time playing, napping, and trying to potty & crate train. I don't think I could love him any more than I do! He is so happy and adorable and learning really fast. He loves riding in the car, meeting the neighbors, and trying to eat my kale plants. He currently hates/does not understand the concept of a leash, so a harness has been my best friend when taking him out.

Here are some fun facts about Boston Terriers:

Boston Terriers are intelligent, happy-go-lucky, and playful. They were also the first dog breed developed in the United States, earning them the nickname "The American Gentleman," also due to their black and white tuxedo like coat. They are also the official state dog of Massachusetts.

I know I have been terrible at blogging lately, summer has been far from a break for me. But I am back and will have some fun updates soon!

The Best is Yet to Come

A couple months back, a friend (& new sister) of mine asked me to letter this saying for her new gallery wall. I loved these words so much, I wanted to share them. The encouragement in this quote is something I think we all can need at times.

Life can be discouraging and things can happen so unexpectedly but this makes me so excited for the future. I hope it does for you too.

Happy Sunday!

DIY COCONUT COFFEE BODY SCRUB

I am super excited to share this DIY with you guys — I made this scrub a few weeks back and have been so obsessed with it I thought I would share it with you all. I adapted this amazing recipe (with a small tweak)  from Free People's blog (which I love & highly recommend.) It is beyond easy and will leave your skin feeling so smooth and hydrated. Made with only 5 natural ingredients, it is so simple & oh so worth trying!

You might be thinking "coffee, really?!?! " but I promise it is the best part. It smells so amazing and used during my morning shower routine it has been the perfect way to wake me up! Not to mention, coffee is rich in antioxidants and acts as an anti-inflammatory.

Also, the caffeine in the coffee draws out excess moisture from your skin, which can help make it look and feel smoother and firmer.

INGREDIENTS
_

1 / 4 cup coconut oil
1 / 2 cup ground coffee
1 / 2 cup coconut palm sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon vitamin E oil

_

As far as the ingredients, I got all of mine from Trader Joe's except for the vitamin E oil   that you may have to head to the drugstore (or Target) for. To make this scrub, simply mix all ingredients together in a bowl until well-combined. If your coconut oil is solid, melt it down but let it cool to room temperature before adding to other ingredients. You want the texture to be a bit gritty. Once all mixed, store in an airtight container and enjoy!

Hope you guys enjoy this as much as I do, I look forward to hearing what you think about it!

DIY Hanging Herb Shelves

So here it goes - my first DIY post. I am excited to share this one with you all. Since moving to the East Coast from always-sunny California this fall and experiencing one of the coldest winters to date, it's safe to say I am extremely excited it is finally spring! I have been planting and potting things inside, outside, and all over my house. So it was only natural that I needed to plant some sort of herb garden. And because I love hanging planters, I knew I had to figure out something that incorporated both.

MATERIALS

Wood (2 18" Long pieces)
Drill
Sisal Rope
Scissors
Large Jumpring
Assorted Herbs
Small Pots (I used Terra Cotta)

01 | First, we mark where we will need to drill 4 holes in each piece of wood. Measure using a ruler or measuring tape and mark 1 inch from each edge.

02 | Using your drill, drill 4 holes in each piece of wood (8 holes total). Make sure you drill holes big enough to string the rope through!

03 | Depending on your desired height of the the shelves, cut the rope into 2 pieces. I cut mine about 60" each (the longer, the better, because you will trim these later). Now, loop both pieces of rope through your jump ring, this will leave you with 4 loose ends.

05 | String each loose end of the rope through the holes on your first piece of wood. Once you first shelf to desired height, tie 4 knots.

06 | Repeat step above with second piece of wood to create your second shelf.

07 | Trim bottom ends of rope so that all 4 ends are even (It helps to hang for this step!)

08 | Pot your herbs and place on your new hanging shelves!

Herbs generally require full sun, so choose a place where your herbs can get as much sun as possible.  A south facing window is ideal. Bright light is a key to success growing herbs inside, away from their natural environment.

I hung mine in my kitchen window, right above my sink. This seemed like a good spot where my herbs can get the sunlight they need & I can look at its cuteness all the time.

Cant wait to hear what you guys are going to hang yours!

SHOP TOMORROW!

As some of you know, (or may have seen from poking around my website) in 2012 I started a jewelry line called Promised Land Jewelry. But between graduating college, getting married, moving across the country and freelance design work, I have had very little time to dedicate to PLJ. But I FINALLY have gotten it together and am launching the new & improved Promised Land. The launch is happening tomorrow, Monday at 9 AM PST / 12 PM EST.

Make sure to follow along on Instagram (@shoppromisedland and you never know, there may be a giveaway happening this week too!

psst...We changed the name from Promised Land Jewelry to Promised Land because, we've got more than jewelry now!
